But Northrup believes thyroid problems can also be the result of something else. As she explains in her book, "in many women, thyroid dysfunction develops because of an energy blockage in the throat region, the result of a lifetime of 'swallowing' words one is aching to say."

Newsweek has a must-read article on the odd and sometimes dangerous medical advice dished out by some of Oprah's favorite guests, kind of an extension of her berserk love for The Secret. Hopefully "Lo" is being careful about maybe not following all of Oprah's advice.

Amanda Marcotte has a compelling analysis of the piece, arguing that her guests prey specifically on women's anxieties.
