For some reason greenbacks started falling from the sky during the seventh-inning stretch at Sox Park yesterday, delighting fans already feeling pretty good, what with the sunshine, the uncharacteristically sloppy defense on the part of the Twins (three errors that should have been four), and the sharp pitching of Mark Buehrle (who beat out Carlos Zambrano and Brian Urlacher to be named favorite Chicago athlete in the Sun-Times's annual poll of sports fans). Today they've pounded the Tigers 10-6 despite all first three pitchers (Gavin Floyd, D.J. Carrasco, Matt Thornton) living dangerously enough to have to work their way out of bases-loaded jams. (Floyd allowed six earned runs in five innings and walked seven.) Even better, omenwise, when Paul Konerko and Jermaine Dye hit back-to-back homers in the second, it was the career 300th for each of them. Looks like there may be life in the team's 2005 core yet: Dye's slugging percentage is currently .630 (you can see video of his home run yesterday off Twins closer Joe Nathan here), and Konerko--who went four for five today with four RBIs--is at .692.
