Hannah Free previews Saturday, and is the topic tonight on Chicago Tonight

Before Chicago Filmmakers' 8 PM screening of Coffy this Saturday, screenwriter/executive producer Claudia Allen and editor Sharon Zurek will present a trailer and launch party for Wendy Jo Carlton's debut feature Hannah Free. (I worked on the film as assistant director last November during shooting in the Prairie Avenue District.) Sharon Gless (Cagney and Lacey) stars as a woman fighting prejudice to be reunited with her comatose lover.  Allen adapted the script from her own play, which premiered at Bailiwick Arts Center in 1992.

Coffy and the Hannah Free event are part of Chicago Filmmakers' Dyke Delicious screening series. It's at 7 PM Saturday at Chicago Filmmakers, 5243 N. Clark St. $10.

Tonight at 7 Gless and costar Taylor Miller talk about the film on Channel 11's Chicago Tonight.
