Layoffs and freezes at the Tribune Company soon, Crain's reports. Just a note: if you're going to lay off people whose profession is the English language, at least do them the dignity of not using phrases like "rightsizing activities." The word rightsizing, with the implication this company is the wrong size with you in it, just makes my blood boil. When my time comes, I insist on axed, kicked to the curb, sacked, made to walk the plank--something with some punch and something that doesn't sound like corporate self-aggrandizement.
