Not a great start

It's starting to sound like the House Democrats are getting beaten like a rented goalie by the minority Republicans over bankruptcy and family planning in the stimulus bill, with the aid of President Obama. Atrios: "I am just shocked to discover that Republicans will vote against the bill which has been made shittier to please them."

Obama's made some admirable initial moves, but administrative maneuvers are one thing, political maneuvers are another. He has a lot of political capital, and the first 100 days are typically when presidents spend it. Obama's caution and bipartisan instincts in the political arena may bite him in the ass these days. Pay close attention.
