Andrew Bird, the subject of a recent Sharp Darts column that’s been stirring up some controversy (see the comments), plays January 27 on The Late Show With David Letterman. But if you watch, let your attention wander to something positioned behind Chicago’s most famous whistler; Bird will be using a variety of horn speakers designed here by Specimen Products--the company started by former Shrimp Boat guitarist and luthier Ian Schneller. Bird has been using them for several years now, including the Janus Horn (pictured), a revolving amp with two horns. You can see it at work below in his music video for "Imitosis."

Andrew Bird: Imitosis

Today’s playlist:

Kid Creole, Going Places: The August Darnell Years 1976-1983 (Strut)
Suarasama, Fajar Di Atas Awan (Drag City)
Various Artists, Imaginational Anthem Volume Three (Tompkins Square)
Beat Circus, Dreamland (Cuneiform)
Jolie Holland, The Living and the Dead (Anti-)
