Storytellers, poets, musicians, artists, and comedians are gathering at the Metro tomorrow at 8 PM for the Windy City Story Slam's first annual All-City Championships, a multifaceted event described as "part reading and competition, part concert, and part art opening."

Created by host Bill Hillmann and inspired by Marc Kelly Smith's Uptown Poetry Slam at the Green Mill, the show will feature 12 contestants trying to win over the judgmental audience and take the slam crown.

Woven into the competition are other entertainments, including author and Columbia College professor Don DeGrazia reading from his forthcoming novel Reel Shadows, a 15-minute poetry piece from Smith, local filmmaker Usama Alshaibi screening a short film, and a performance from Chicago hip-hop group BBU. After the winner is announced there will be sets from the Thin Man and the Minneapolis Henrys.

The event is free and 18+. VIP packages are available for $100 a pop and include admission and VIP seats for four people, plus four drinks per person.
