Nature vs nurture

Not having weapons of mass destruction (in Iraq) was a disappointment. --George W. Bush, 1/12/09

A thought experiment on the occasion of GWB's final presser:

Imagine, if you will, learning to play poker. Imagine that you won no matter what cards you were dealt or what hands you played, from the day you first played until middle age.

Would you understand how poker works? Would you understand how the world works? My guess is that it would do so much damage to your instinctual concept of cause and effect it would be like growing up in zero gravity.

In the interest of trying to live by precepts of forgiveness and humanism, I try to keep that in mind whenever our outgoing president opens his mouth.
