Sit back and watch you play yourself

Senate Democrats have no choice but to change their tone about Roland Burris becoming a U.S. senator because Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich "called our bluff" in appointing someone over their objections, a senior Democratic congressional source conceded Wednesday.

"We tried to send a political signal to Blagojevich that we would not seat someone he appointed. He called our bluff, in a reckless way," the Democratic source said.

Piece of advice: if someone who's just been neutered bets you for your balls, walk away. You cannot win that bet.

Let me get this straight. By "bluffing," the Senate Democrats were hoping that Blagojevich, who has been described for months in the Chicago media with adjectives one would normally apply to a serial killer, would tap into some hidden reserve of dignity?

That after allegedly trying to sell a Senate seat he would--with nothing left to lose and less political capital than my cats--decide to act conservatively?

This isn't the strategy of a majority party, it's the strategy of the Washington Generals.

Via John Cole, who writes: "what is great about this is that they still think it is 'reckless,' when pretty clearly, as I stated over and over again, it was the only rational option for Blagojevich. The only thing he has going for him is the legitimate authority of his office, and these keystone cops in DC still have not figured that out."
