One topic of discussion here at the Reader and among my friends during the last presidential election was how one, if one is interested in local and state politics and the reform of such, could back Barack Obama with the knowledge that he wasn't a terribly active and public reform politician.

To which I say now: See?

Think about it. Your options are:

1. Play the game, climb the ladder, and get the hell out.

2. Spend the rest of your life working with Mayor Daley, Rod Blagojevich, Mike Madigan, Emil Jones, Dick Mell, Bobby Rush, and other local luminaries.

"Local and state politics are very important and men of good will should do what they can" is an acceptable answer here. I'm just saying: it makes sense. As Hannibal Lecter put it, "while you could only dream of getting out... getting anywhere... getting all the way to the F... B... I."
