Lots of activity circa the great Middle Eastern nexus of Lawrence and Kedzie. The 24-hour Assyrian-Iraqi Mataam al-Mataam rapidly abandoned its space on the northwest corner weeks ago and is now setting up shop just west at 3222 W. Lawrence. Someone is cleaning up the space vacated by Cups, 4645 N. Kedzie, hopefully trying to make a go as a much needed independent competitor to Starbucks (third time's a charm). And finally Tannourine, a spiffy looking Middle Eastern bakery and sweet shop, named for a village in Lebanon, is opening just north of Lawrence at 4806 N. Kedzie.
