It's Never Too Late To Learn About TIFs

Posted By on 11.19.08 at 03:58 PM

It may seem like a waste of time to rise up angry against the TIFs, since the mainstream media doesn't cover them, the vast majority of the public apparently thinks they're too hard to understand, and the whole world's going to hell in a hand basket anyway--so, really, what difference does it make if the mayor's favorite program drives us to bankruptcy?

Nevertheless, the Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization will carry on the crusade against the waste, inefficiency, and sheer scandal of it all. They're holding a forum Monday, November 24 at 7 pm at the Edgewater Library, 1210 W. Elmdale.

It's called "The TIF Crisis," and it features John Paul Jones, who was onto this scam long ago, back in the day when he was an organizer for the late, great Neighborhood Capital Budget Group, which went out of business after philanthropies realized it wasn't good business to fund organizations that reported the truth about Mayor Daley's Chicago.

Also on the show will be Cook County commissioner Mike Quigley, one of the only elected officials in Chicago who's not afraid to denounce the program.

Admission is free--unless you count the $550 million in property taxes the TIFs cost you last year.
