The always readable and interesting Greg Hinz of Crain's Chicago Business on 2016 Olympic transit:

"The most ambitious idea being discussed is to use excess right of way along the Metra tracks for light rail — a.k.a. street car — service from Washington Park east to the Metra tracks, and then continuing north to the Loop and maybe even Navy Pier. If that sounds like the old Central Area Circulator service plan that the city killed off a decade ago, it is, and it faces the same problem the circulator did: Who will pay the cost, estimated at anywhere from $1.5 billion to $6 billion?

"The answer to that one is easy: presumed President Barack Obama."

Dear Likely President Obama:

Get used to it.

[In all fairness, a strong emphasis on rebuilding American infrastructure generally is almost certainly a wise idea given its state, as well as that of the national economy; Larry Summers and Joseph Stiglitz are actively pushing the issue.]
