Strange Culture, one of J.R. Jones's favorite films of last year, screens free tonight at Gallery 400, the art space of UIC's College of Architecture and the Arts (400 S. Peoria). Directed by Lynn Hershman Leeson, the film tells the story of Steve Kurtz, a conceptual artist fingered by the FBI as a bioterrorist. Marching Plague by the Critical Art Ensemble, of which Kurtz is a founding member, will also be screened. The films start at 6 PM and will be followed by a discussion with associate professor Claire Pentecost and the curators of Gallery 400's current exhibit, Biological Agents: Artistic Engagements in our Growing Bio-Culture, which runs through 11/22.
