According to an autobiography he wrote in 1961 with Heinrich Harrer, who earlier tutored the present Dalai Lama, Mr. Norbu had a boyhood full of pranks, like roasting a potato in a sacramental fire. At 8, he entered Kumbum and impressed teachers by memorizing 2,000 pages of scripture.

T. Norbu, the brother of the Dalai Lama and a Bloomington, IN resident, passed away Friday at 86 (or 87, depending on how you count it); h/t Graeme.
