This week in backhanded compliments

As a juror I'm still out on whether the media is pro-Obama, anti-McCain, vice versa, or whatever, but in and of itself Don Terry's profile of Obama's closest advisor, Valerie Jarrett, is really a tour de force of unctuousness more appropriate to Cook County Magazine. Still, this line just got me (emphasis mine):

The closest on-the-record critique came from the typically independent Toni Preckwinkle

Which is not to say the Trib is snowed as an institution--here's an article from earlier this month about Jarrett, Habitat Co., and its relationship to the CHA's Plan for Transformation, which is heretofore a total mess as detailed in a much longer and more general piece. The Boston Globe's CHA piece, as I've mentioned before, is also worth reading.
