WhereTheEl is an audacious and extremely awesome attempt (still a prototype, so the functionality's a bit rough) to use Twitter and the kindness of strangers to do for the El what the CTA's Bus Tracker does for buses. I'm deeply skeptical of Twitter as a person-to-person communications medium, having once called it, in a moment of ill humor, "a Post-It Note being stuck on a human face forever," but as a medium for people to send structured information to computers, it has some awesome uses.
