Nude as the news

You know, this would be a good time for a discussion w/r/t Obama's rhetoric about and directed to black America, but neither Jesse Jackson nor the newspapers seem to want to have it right now. I can't decide what's more frustrating--that, or the idea that it's terribly shocking for one powerful public figure to say he wants to deball another powerful public figure. Am I the only person who's ever heard the Nixon tapes? Dick "Fuck Yourself" Cheney?

Anyway, Steve Rhodes and Roland Martin have dueling opinions. Also, Ta-Nehisi Coates's essay on Bill Cosby's black conservatism is relevant here. Update: Right, it's probably also relevant what Coates says about Jackson on his own blog (which is good and you should read): "Anyone who thinks this will hurt Obama's support among African-Americans can come meet me on 125th where I will present them a deed for the GW Bridge."

Hey, while we're speaking of individuals in bad situations who want to blame society for their ills and the politicians who blame them, here's McCain chief economic adviser Phil Gramm on you pansies who are all like "oh, it's so hard to pay $75 dollars for a full tank of gas and I'm so worried about natural gas being twice as expensive as it was last year": ""You've heard of mental depression; this is a mental recession. .... We have sort of become a nation of whiners."

That I'm sure won't make the papers, but I'm all about equal time.
