Instant gratification

What they say:

One of the main strategies outlined by Tribune Chief Operating Officer Randy Michaels involves measuring the productivity of journalists. "This is a new thing," he said. "Nobody ever said, 'How many column inches did someone produce?'"

What it means:

Sen. Barack Obama bumped fists with his wife, Michelle, and ... Patted her on the tush? It's not clear where the presumptive Democratic candidate for president patted his wife before his speech Tuesday night in St. Paul.

The outstanding and of-late-deservedly-high-profile journalist/essayist/memoirist Ta-Nehisi Coates points out that it's not "bumping fists," it's giving dap. And it is definitely not a close-fisted high-five (a high zero? huh?).
