Inexplicable deadline writing of the day

I know deadline writing is hard, but adding "color" just makes it harder (emphasis mine):

"The trial also provided ample fodder for cynics who see Illinois politicians as members of a cozy club motivated more by greed than altruism or ideology."

Yr cynic adds: I think we'd all be less cynical if Rezko and his ilk could be "convicted of corruption," as the Trib headline currently reads, but corruption isn't, like, illegal. Bribery, mail fraud, etc. are; sorry to be nitpicky, but c'mon. The S-T has the jury form.
