Ahem.

This whole "Obama talks to Iowans about arugula, heh" meme has come right out of the fever swamps, and nobody bothers to mention that he was talking to arugula farmers. . . .

What meme? This one. The rather old one about how them small town real-as-the-dirt-backroads heartland farmers probably think arugula is funny-soundin' and ain't never heard of it, less'n they sell it to fancy-pants liberals. Or the White Sox.

Maybe if they went back to calling it something totally macho and kick-ass like "rocket" it wouldn't be a deal. Plus, it has its benefits: "Arugula is a promising green for the Midwest with a spicy flavor that can compete with lettuce. Unlike lettuce, arugula is not bitter."
