Marjorie Warvelle Bear's unpublished manuscript A Mile Square of Chicago, a 549-page history of her West Side neighborhood first written about by Eric Zorn over a decade ago, is now a book. Zorn has the whole story on his blog.

Tangentially related: The Danville Community Encyclopedia, an art project-cum-Wiki by Anna Callahan about the city of Danville, Illinois. The "A" section, available for download as a PDF, is a great read ("And you don’t see performances by other great athletes if they’re not American. Now that’s a sharp difference between narcissistic personality disorder of the U.S. and I think a more balanced, but somewhat smug and hypocritical personality, that you might call the Canadian personality").
