Praise where Jay is due

"Wow,'' says Droughns, tucking away the letter. ``It saddens me. I do want to call him, but down inside, I really don't want to call him. He wasn't in my life for 10 or 11 years. After a while, it's like maybe he has to find his own way. He has been heavily into drugs, and that is what took apart our relationship. In my mind, he has shown me what NOT to do with my children.''

Hating on Jay Mariotti is a civic tradition, so it seems only fair to point out that his profile of Reuben Droughns, Sr., father of New York Giants tailback/kick returner Reuben Droughns, Jr. and a current inmate at Cook County Jail, is quite moving.
