During the South Carolina primary postgame on MSNBC, Newsweek's Howard Fineman said that it was remarkable how a Daley (that would be Bill) is an Obama adviser since "for 40 years the Daleys were dependent on white voters" or words quite close to that, and that's a sign of how much racial relations in this country have changed.

I hadn't really thought about Chicago machine politics primarily as a triumph of racial solidarity. The cynic in me is, cynically, moved. Howard Fineman: he just has a genius for finding the silver lining.
