The economics of sex work

The Economist takes a look at a couple papers presented at the annual meeting of the American Economic Association--a big-name collaboration between Steven Levitt of Freakonomics fame and "rogue sociologist" Sudhir Venkatesh on the local prostitution trade, and a less-noticed paper by Taggert Brooks of the University of Wisconsin on strip clubs. It's pretty depressing: "Prostitutes are more likely to have sex with a police officer than to be arrested by one."
