"More than three hours of car-free [bicycle] riding on pavement that has never experienced a traffic jam"-- that's what you can have for $25 on the morning of November 11, says the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation. It's cosponsoring the event with the Illinois Tollway, just before a controversial new tollway segment -- the south extension of I-355 -- opens to vehicular traffic. From the 127th Street Interchange in Lemont, "bicyclists will head out across the Des Plaines River Valley Bridge allowing a stunning bird's-eye view of the Des Plaines River Valley including the Des Plaines River, the I&M Canal and the Sanitary and Ship Canal. The route will then take riders south along the Will County corridor running through Lemont, Lockport, Homer Glen and New Lenox."

The ride will raise seed money for a nonprofit that will work to turn a 20-foot-wide reserved corridor into a multi-use trail paralleling the main road. Read more and sign up here.
