I guess this isn't poppin' hot news, but I just found out (via Metafilter) that Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, former guitarist for Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers, has a side hustle in national security. I'm having kind of a hard time wrapping my brain around that one. According to the article, during war games, dude "quickly earned a reputation for using creative, terrorist-style tactics." So basically, one more reason to be terrified of former members of the Doobie Brothers. Actually, I'm imagining some sort of crazy Yacht Rock version of a Harry Turtledove novel where Jeff "Skunk" Baxter is the head of a global terrorist network and Donald Fagen and Walter Becker are president and vice-president, and it's cracking me up pretty hard. I should post this to my Steely Dan fan fiction site.
