One of the reasons I read the sports blog Deadspin, part of the Nick Denton snark empire that includes Wonkette and Gawker, is that editor Will Leitch is the highest-profile Cardinals fan outside of the Post-Dispatch. As someone who's been following the midwest's Yankees long before I ever moved out here, it was encouraging to stumble upon a fellow Redbirds fan on the Internet.

After the passing of Cardinals reliever Josh Hancock, Leitch, whose family was acquainted with the pitcher, wrote a moving obit from a fan's perspective. Players like Hancock play an odd role in the lives of baseball fans, so Leitch touches a nerve.
