One of my favorite thrift stores in the city--not so much for clothes, but for furniture and housewares and gadgets--is the Salvation Army at 506 N. DesPlaines, just off of Grand Ave. It's the only Salvation Army I've been to with an "antique store," a room in the building with more expensive, higher-quality items (closed on Mondays, IIRC). Choice finds the last time I went included an autoharp and a Southern Comfort belt buckle, which would have been a fine visual pun, given where I'm from, but I try not to work blue when it comes to my wardrobe.
