Just asking

Open question: since it's being taken as gospel--even by the skeptical--that the Olympics will finally give Chicago the attention we've been sorely lacking since sometime or whenever and fulfill all our dreams of being part of the International World City Gold Club... does anyone think any better of Atlanta, a decade down the road, for having done the same thing? It's still just Atlanta, right?

Maybe it always seemed like a big-deal city because I'm southern, but the city's cultural contributions to America seem to have a lot more to do with being the southern equivalent to Boston in terms of its higher education than the fact that it hosted an expensive festival consisting mostly of sports that everyone pretends to care about for two weeks every four years.
