Eric Zorn:

"It’s great to see our dreams, passion and pride win out over those offered by Los Angeles, a smug, presumptuous city that’s already had more than its share of turns in the international spotlight."

Jay Mariotti:

"Our city needs an international stage, an opportunity to prove we're as iconic as New York and L.A."

Mike Downey:

"If anybody can do it, [Mayor Daley] can."

Lynn Sweet:

"Sweet blog extra: Chicago wins host city 2016 Olympics bid!!!!!!!"

Blair Kamin:

The Spire would be the new global symbol for Chicago, an icon in the sky, just as the Summer Games would define Chicago as a "world city" and spur transformation on the ground--taking the lakefront envisioned by Daniel Burnham to a new level of beauty and utility.

Sun-Times editorial board:

"It could be the best party the city will ever throw, deserving of a fifth star on the Chicago flag."

Tribune editorial board:

"They will need partners, the millions of people who live in Chicago and its suburbs. So puff out your chests, and go sell the world on Chicago."

2016 bid chairman Patrick Ryan:

"And I want to thank the Chicago press . . . we have many new best friends in the press. . . . "
