Election Day Dispatch #17: Nary a peep in Mary Ann Smith's roost

Here's word from Fuzzy Gerdes in the 48th Ward, where alderman Mary Ann Smith got her opponents bounced off the ballot:

The 48th Ward is uncontested, and so things in the 47th precinct were really dead, as I expected. My wife and I were the only voters there at 9 AM; the ballot reader said we were #20 and #21. My wife had a small issue getting a ballot, but not because of any problem with her registration or anything--somehow the way I turned down the touch-screen machine confused the election official enough that she then got completely discombobulated when my wife wanted a ballot too. But it was all straightened out with a repetitions of "No, I would like to vote as well, please."

Here's a picture of me with my receipt:http://www.flickr.com/photos/fuzzy/404727884/

And I did also write about this on the Chicago Metblog:

Enjoying your coverage,
Fuzzy
