Could there be sanity ahead for the tech team in Congress?

BoingBoing notes that Howard Berman, the Democrat who's positioned to take over the House committee on digital thang-thangs -- aka the Internet and Intellectual Property Subcommittee -- might be good for supporting increased intervention in the Darfur genocide, but he's not necessarily the best man for a tech job. Unless you're a multi-jillion-dollar tech/entertainment mega-beast, that is.

The good news is that there's talk of Berman skipping the committee chair, leaving it in the hands of someone who may be thinking more about the people. This would be rad. In an earlier post, I wrote about the possible ramifications of a group of people without sufficient tech smarts debating laws that will impact the digital economy and the digital consumer. I figure that most congresspeople can be bought off with a refurbished PlayStation 2 and a sack of "Hot Stock Investment" printouts to get them to vote on something they don't understand in the first place. But a few know what the Web-o-sphere is really about, and ending up with one of those few behind the wheel would feel like a victory on top of a victory. Still, I'm signing up with the EFF, just in case.
