Their Favorite Outfit

LINDSAY AND ASHLEY Usich, 22, are fraternal twins who live together in Logan Square. Ashley works at a lingerie store and supports her sister, who is the homemaker.

Tell me about your outfits.

Lindsay: Everything is vintage, from thrift stores in New York, Miami, and Chicago. The white dress shirt I love—they’re effortless and chic. The high-waisted shorts—I love anything with a high waist. The rabbit’s foot necklace, normally I wouldn’t wear a foot on my neck, but it’s good luck. I was wearing that and the feather because I had just gotten back from Michigan with my friend. We just went on a retreat, painted our faces and ran around naked in the forest. Just for a holiday, to get out of the city for a weekend.

Ashley: My look is mainly vintage stuff I got at the thrift. The shorts were pants so I cut them off, the belt I got at this antique store in Connecticut. The shoes are Chie Mihara, a new designer I like a lot. I love giant heels; I love to tower over people. I didn’t go to the woods, I stayed home and went to work, once everyone got back, though, I got into the feather look too.

Where do you shop?

Lindsay: I shop at Village and Unique and then sometimes we go to Neiman Marcus. We do all of our shopping together.

Ashley: I like digging through our mom’s closet. She was a sexy hippie in the 70s, and so we wear a lot of her hand-me-downs.

Do you ever wear matching outfits?

Lindsay: A lot of people confuse us, so if we’re wearing similar stuff it makes it worse. We didn’t even do matching outfits when we were little.

Ashley: Sometimes we tromp out of our rooms and find we’re wearing the exact same shorts, clunky heels, and a tailored white blouse. That happens a lot.

What’s the hardest part of being part of a fashionable twin?

Ashley: Going to reach for your favorite pair of shoes and realizing your twin is out somewhere wearing them. It’s kind of the story of my life. —Jessica Hopper
