Chicago International Children’s Film Festival

Hip Hip Hooray!

The 24th Chicago International Children’s Film Festival continues through 10/28 with programs that range from collections of short films suitable for preschoolers (including Hip Hip Hooray!, part of “F Is for Family”) to dramatic features for school-age kids. Among the latter are A Plumm Summer, a live-action adventure in which two brothers try to solve the mysterious disappearance of a puppet TV star (Sat 10/27, 11:30 AM, Wilmette); Hui Buh the Goofy Ghost, a German animation about a medieval specter whose castle home is invaded by newlywed royals (Sun 10/28, 10:30 AM, Wilmette); Island of Lost Souls, a live-action fantasy from Denmark in which a girl unwittingly conjures up the spirit of a 19th-century Mason (Sun 10/28, 12:30 PM, Wilmette); and Witch From Melchet Street, an Israeli live-action feature about a boy who turns to a witch for help with his unrequited love (Sun 10/28, 1:30 PM, Wilmette). Professional actors will be on hand to read subtitles aloud for programs geared to kids nine and under.

In addition to the screenings, the festival offers workshops on moviemaking techniques, among them acting, animation, and documentary filmmaking. Registration for workshops is required in advance at cicff.org (by phone, 773-281-2166 or 773-281-9075).
