Critic's Choice Paul Sanasardo and Dmitri Peskov Choreographer Paul Sanasardo celebrates turning 80 with the ambitious new Sleepless Nights in the City, inspired partly by Edward Hopper's painting Nighthawks. This harsh work in five sections--one of them set to an ear-splitting John Adams composition for sirens--captures the menace of lonely urban streets, especially in scenes between a homeless woman and a Travis Bickle-type midnight marauder. Friday-Saturday 6/26-6/27, Ruth Page Center for the Arts.

Critic's Choice The AWARD Show Many applied but few were chosen: of 45 local candidates, a dozen choreographers were selected to compete for a $10,000 prize to be used for new work. Four of them present pieces on each of three nights of this event administered by the Joyce Theater Foundation; audience preference determines the three finalists, who go on to another round on the fourth evening. 6/24-6/27 at Dance Center of Columbia College.

Notable Chicago Dance Crash KTF Battle of the Belt A "dance-improv showdown, the Keeper of the Floor Championship," 6/26 at Lakeshore Theater.
