Hipster princess Stella Schnabel (daughter of the painter and film director Julian Schnabel) stars as a hot mess who's been freshly discharged from a New York psychiatric ward, but not because she's got her shit together or anything. She sleeps with icky bearded guys, melts down in public, endures a series of absurd acting auditions, gets into shrieking matches with her equally high-strung girlfriends, then melts down some more. Press materials for this low-fi indie (2009) flog the adjective "kaleidoscopic," which is a nice way of saying it has all the structure of an overused ashtray. Director Ry Russo-Young, who cowrote the script with Schnabel, is gunning for a big generational statement, but her ordnance is strictly small bore.
