Back in the 70s, this was a blues club that hosted the likes of Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, and Mighty Joe Young. It’s been sold twice since then: the first time it was renamed Waterloo Tavern; the second time it became Wise Fools Pub once again. These days it’s more likely to host local alt-rock and cover bands than blues, but when there’s no music it’s a low-key neighborhood joint with a good selection of reasonably priced craft beers on tap. I appreciated an epigram scrawled inside the door of a stall in the women’s room: “I feel like a hampster turd on a Pencil Shaving.” It was attributed to “gandi.” —Julia Thiel
