Bedridden after an accident, a woodcutter in a mountain village of northern Iran hopes to retire his debts by promising the hand of his beautiful daughter (Elnaz Shakerdoust) to a rich man’s son who has Down syndrome. When the young woman rejects the prospective groom she incurs the wrath of his powerful and arrogant father, who’s not above murder. This 2008 fable has a few comic touches, but the flat, occasionally strained performances make it as dreary a slog as the heroine’s daily trudge through the snow on her round of chores. Khosro Masoumi (Somewhere Too Far) directed. In Farsi with subtitles. 89 min.
