Actually many of the exteriors were shot in suburban Quebec, which makes the movie's Wicker Park even less recognizable than the real one. An advertising executive (Josh Hartnett) catches sight of the woman who broke his heart two years earlier (Diane Kruger), and as he tries to track her down, the story becomes a perplexing mosaic of flashbacks that also involve his best pal (Matthew Lillard) and hers (Rose Byrne). The screenplay was adapted from Gilles Mimouni's French feature L'appartement, and in the press notes director Paul McGuigan candidly remarks, “I had to go back and read it again to make sure I was picking it up.” His blithe handling of a fiendishly complicated narrative will make most viewers wish they had the same luxury, though there are some striking visuals and Hartnett is a magnetic presence. PG-13, 100 min.
