Wicker Park Fest returns this weekend, and in its ninth year it's bigger than ever. The festival includes the usual merchants, artists, and food vendors, but the big attraction is the music. Starting at 1 PM both days, a massive lineup of indie rock, pop, punk, folk, and more will fill three stages spread out along Milwaukee Avenue: the North Stage (at North Avenue, of course), the South Stage (at Wood), and the Center Stage (midway between the other two). Saturday on the North Stage, Omaha indie rockers Cursive headline; among the other acts are Foxy Shazam, Andrew Jackson Jihad, and New Jersey powerhouses Screaming Females. Brooklyn neo-new wavers the Drums headline the South Stage, after Fang Island, Exitmusic, Yawn, and others; the Center Stage lineup includes locals Kill Hannah, indie-rock supergroup the Baseball Project, Walter Salas-Humara of the Silos, Magic Box, and more. On Sunday horn-heavy Afro-soul outfit the Budos Band headlines, after Miniature Tigers, Tim Fite, the Ben Miller Band, Lasers & Fast & Shit, and others. The South Stage roster includes alt-country act Lucero, Horse Feathers, Fort Frances, and Cheap Girls; local folksinger Joe Pug closes out the day on the Center Stage, after the Steepwater Band, Tristen, Will Phalen & the Stereo Addicts, and more. Wicker Park Fest Kids runs from noon to 6 PM both days in the Walgreens parking lot at Milwaukee and Wolcott, and includes the usual activities (face painting, arts and crafts, a bounce house) plus less conventional options such as a reptile show, mini golf, and a No Doubt cover band. This year's fest will also feature a spectacular combination vehicle-sculpture-performance platform from Redmoon (on Honore south of Milwaukee) and movement-activated large-scale inflatable art installations presented by Defibrillator Gallery (on Wood north of Milwaukee).
