Financed mainly by its own stars—rap musicians Run, D.M.C., and Jam Master Jay of Run-D.M.C.—this is a thriller designed to make up for the group's previous brush with movies (the ill- fated Krush Groove) and to constitute a “cinematic equivalent to the best rap records.” Directed by costar Rick Rubin from his own script (cowritten by Ric Menello), with Richard Edson, Jenny Lumet, Raymond White, and Lois Ayer among the cast, this movie has a plot involving murder, drugs, loyalty, retribution, and, needless to say, rap music.
