Aasif Mandvi, the funniest "correspondent" for The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, files down some of his sharp edges for this appealing restaurant comedy, which he adapted from his 1998 one-man show Sakina's Restaurant. He plays a frustrated sous chef who impulsively quits his job at a four-star restaurant in Manhattan; though indifferent to his ethnic heritage, he reluctantly takes over the family's Indian restaurant in Queens after his father falls ill. The stage show involved multiple characters, which probably accounts for the rich assortment of supporting roles here; Naseeruddin Shah has the best of them as the chef's eccentric cooking mentor, but Harish Patel is also wonderful as the dyspeptic father. David Kaplan directed; with Jess Weixler (Teeth) and Kevin Corrigan.
