Even after two viewings I can’t make head or tails of the corporate-crime intrigue at the periphery of this South Korean drama. But that may not matter, because the primary concern of writer-director Im Sang-soo is the moral deformity of the superrich family at the center of the story. A handsome private secretary (Kim Kang-woo) demonstrates his loyalty to his high-powered boss (Baek Yun-shik) by keeping his mouth shut about the man's extramarital humping of his Filipino maid (Maui Taylor); yet this secret, which gets out soon enough, compromises him with the boss's dragon-lady wife (Yoon Yeo-jeong), whose elderly father is the power behind the throne, and their good-natured daughter (Kim Hyo-jin), who loves the secretary. Like Im's previous feature, The Housemaid, this one transpires in a world of clean, hard, glassy surfaces that only heighten the characters' malignance. In Korean with subtitles.

Sorry there are no showtimes for The Taste of Money on Saturday, May 18.
