Star Gregory Peck and screenwriter Casey Robinson were collaborators on the best straight screen adaptation of Hemingway, The Macomber Affair (1947), but the combination didn't work again with this overstuffed Fox production of 1952, which features Peck as a dying writer looking back on his life. There is some exquisite Technicolor photography by Leon Shamroy, but director Henry King never moves the action beyond respectful superficiality. With Susan Hayward, Ava Gardner, and Hildegarde Neff.
