Dashiell Hammett's most curious novel, about a political fixer who goes to bat for his boss when he's accused of killing a millionaire's son, here turned into a reasonably entertaining vehicle for Paramount's hot love duo of 1942, Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake. The movie, with its odd blend of romance and film noir conventions, is one of the likely sources for Howard Hawks's better known (and much better made) The Big Sleep. With Brian Donlevy, Joseph Calleia, William Bendix, and Bonita Granville.

Sorry there are no showtimes for The Glass Key on Wednesday, May 22.
