A 1955 entry (along with The Man From Laramie) in Anthony Mann's series of psychological westerns with James Stewart. Not the equal of Bend of the River or The Naked Spur, but still up there with the most quirkily personal westerns ever made. Mann's psychodramas are played out against Jungian landscapes of hills and valleys; the use of the Alaskan background here is nothing less than metaphysical. With Walter Brennan, Ruth Roman, and Jay C. Flippen. 97 min.
