A strong cast fails to rescue this ponderous Oscar bait, about a trio of Mossad agents (Jessica Chastain, Sam Worthington, Marton Csokas) charged with tracking down a fiendish Nazi doctor in the mid-60s. He's currently practicing as a gynecologist in East Berlin, which gives Chastain a chance to pose as a patient; this ruse culminates in a jaw-dropping scene of her pulling her feet from the stirrups to strangle him with her legs (let's see James Bond do that). Thirty years later the three operatives—now played by Helen Mirren, Ciaran Hinds, and Tom Wilkinson—have become heroes in Israel, but their celebrated mission didn't turn out exactly the way they thought. John Madden (
Shakespeare in Love) directed, adapting a 2007 Israeli thriller by the same name.
