The 4th Meeting

The 4th Meeting

67 minutes · 2013
A tight-lipped businesswoman, still mourning the recent death of her husband, takes in her college-age sister, who's become addicted to hard drugs. Josh MacNeal and Cy Weisman, who wrote this local production (2013), are brother and sister, and most of the movie's strongest passages are those concerning the siblings' complex relationship. The script also offers some knowing observations of the grieving process and the stresses of interracial marriage (the sisters are black, the dead husband was white, and nearly all the characters have something to say about this). Yet the tricky plotting, with its flashbacks and last-minute twists, tends to undermine the hard-won insights, and the players never quite jell as an ensemble. MacNeal directed.
