In the mid-1950s, twice-divorced Dorian “Doc” Paskowitz abandoned his successful Hawaiian medical practice for a sexual and surfing odyssey in Israel. He returned to the U.S. to marry once again—although not, as it turned out, to settle down. Shunning conventional society, he instead chased the waves with his wife and nine children in a small camper, founding a surf camp and promoting a strict health regimen. Several of his kids became champion surfers, but he allowed none to go to school and was prone to volcanic rages. The fallout decades later provides the drama in this documentary by Doug Pray (Hype!), who lets his eccentric octogenarian subject off a little too easy. R, 94 min.
